Playa del Carmen is situated right in the centre of the peninsula of Yucatan, in the middle of the Mexican Caribbean. With its wonderful beaches and its tropical, Caribbean flair, the city attracts visitors from all over the world. All year round, the average temperature is a sunny 26 degrees. Until a few years ago, Playa del Carmen was a fishing village and it has maintained some of this atmosphere. This atmosphere is now mixed with cosmopolitan influence, giving Playa del Carmen its very special flair. The many small shops, restaurants and cafés are typical of Playa del Carmen. On 5th Avenue and the streets round about, you can find typical, Mexican handicrafts.

The wonderful beach is the place to go to meet people. Playa del Carmen is on the coast and that’s where most people hang out or work. Because of its location, Playa del Carmen is an ideal starting point if you want to get to know Mexico’s culture, especially the history of the Mayas. The town with its 60,000 inhabitants is big enough to have fun in, but small enough to find your way around.
