Bariloche is situated in the Anden mountain range and surrounded by lakes (Nahuel Huapi, Gutiérrez, Mascardi). Its wonderful scenery, consisting of snow-covered peaks, forests and crystal-clear lakes contributes to the fact that Bariloche (from where the beautiful area of Patagonia stretches) is one of the best known tourist areas in Argentina. The city´s 105.000 residents make it the largest of the province and because of the influx of approximately one million tourists per year, it is also one of the most frequented cities in the country. However, the beautiful scenery does not only attract foreign tourists – something similar to the American spring break is usually celebrated in Bariloche. For this occasion, students travel to Bariloche in their last school year and celebrate their achievements. Thus, Bariloche does not only offer what you might be looking for in outdoor activities (anything from hiking, rafting, diving, boat tours, to rock climbing), it also has an incredible nightlife, which will keep you on your toes until the very early morning hours.

The area surrounding Bariloche is one of the most beautiful areas in Argentina and thus a must-do for anyone who is fond of outdoor-activities. Among them the national park Nahuel Huapi, the largest in South America, which features deep lakes, old forests, mountain, islands and its abundantly growing vegetation. Naturally created paths and rivers will challenge anyone who is into biking, rafting or hiking. Along the east coast, bordering the Pacific Ocean, you can find numerous beaches, which are not only great to relax at but also provide refuge for endangered species such as penguins and other birds, as well as whales. The Cerro Catedral is the most important skiing-region in the country.
